Designers are thinking in much grander terms now and, according to the report in the Daily Mail, a leap in technology has allowed for the potential of fitting millions of songs onto portable MP3 players. According to the report in the Daily Mail, scientists discovered a molecule sized switch which is set to revolutionise the storage space associated MP3 players and allow music fans to fit millions of their favourite songs onto their portable music devices. The discovery of this molecule sized switch is set to boost the storage space of MP3 players by a staggering 150,000 times their current capacity. At present the biggest MP3 players offer around 160GB of storage space which is enough for approximately 40,000 songs; so, when you consider these future devices will be capable of holding millions, it is immediately apparent what a substantial leap in technology it represents.

MP3 Players – Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

Whilst this is substantial new MP3 player isn’t expected to hit the market for some time yet, its specifications certainly make for some impressive reading. According to the report in the Daily Mail, it will have a 500,000GB capacity and all this storage space fits onto a chip no bigger than one square inch. This is a vast amount of storage space for an MP3 player and obviously will be ideal for storing all sorts of media files and not just music. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the scientist behind the discovery, Professor Lee Cronin, states, “We have found a way to potentially increase the data storage capabilities in a radical way. This is unprecedented and provides a route to produce new a molecule-based switch that can be easily manipulated using an electric field.”
