According to a report in the Daily Mail, a new MP3 player is literally causing shockwaves on the market. A team of designers in America have come up with an MP3 player that also doubles as a taser.

In an increasingly safety conscious society, a team of designers in the USA may have come up with the perfect MP3 player for paranoid joggers and those living in less than reputable areas; namely an MP3 player which also has the unusual side feature of doubling as a taser to ward off any potential reprobates. The technology behind MP3 players is improving all the time but to incorporate music technology into a piece of self-protection equipment certainly takes it in a new direction.

According to the report in the Daily Mail, the MP3 player and taser combo is quickly becoming a must have accessory for safety conscious music lovers both here and across the Atlantic. The device, which is capable of delivering a 50,000 volt shock to any would-be assailants, is certainly more cumbersome than the more popular MP3 players on the market but it does certainly pack a punch. The MP3 player and taser was recently unveiled at a technology expedition in Las Vegas and was particularly targeted towards women who would normally be put off buying tasers due to their unappealing appearance but by combining them with MP3 players and colourful designs, the creators hoped to overcome this problem. Speaking to the Daily Mail, one of the brains behind the device, Peter Holran, states, “Women want whatever they're carrying - from a lipstick case to their eyeglass case to their Taser - to look nice and be something they won't mind if it falls out of their purse.”

Unfortunately for safety conscious Brits, the taser-MP3 combo is illegal in the UK as a result of weapon laws but Americans can reap the benefits of being able to listening to music nonchalantly whilst having a 50,000 volt defence at their fingertips. MP3 players of the future are sure to incorporate all sorts of outlandish ideas with some destined to be a big hit and others boasting a substantial novelty value; which road the MP3-taser follows is yet to be determined but it is certainly a novel idea.
